Two hands break through cardboard.
Not gently or carefully, but with force – the tear is raw.
The material gives way because it has to.
‘Let me out’ represents the moment when adaptation is no longer an option.
For the point at which one realises that no one is coming to free them,
that escape is work.
The cardboard is not only painted, but damaged.
The surface tears open, exposing the corrugated cardboard.
The image thrives on this tension: oppressive and liberating at the same time.
Confinement and movement. Stagnation and action.
This rebellion is not directed outwards – it is directed inwards.
Against endurance.
Against functioning.
Against all the layers one has imposed on oneself.
Painted with acrylic paints on cardboard, firmly framed. The picture and frame are one.
