Rain has this strange property of making everything quieter.
It is there and loud – and at the same time it swallows up all the noises around us.
You can hear it, and yet a strange silence arises, as only rain can do.
In ‘Walking in the Rain’, the rain is not just background, but structure.
The corrugated cardboard itself becomes a falling movement.
I painted it deliberately – the rain should be visible, noticeable, almost tangible.
Not a soft drizzle, but that steady, persistent, grey patter that carries its own mood.
Sometimes rain seems romantic, sometimes melancholic.
Sometimes it clears the head, sometimes it weighs it down.
The woman under the umbrella walks through this moment.
Whether she has a destination, whether she is waiting, thinking or simply continuing on her way remains open – and that is precisely the point.
The picture does not dictate anything, but is intended to reflect you in this moment.
How do you associate with the picture?
Painted with acrylic paints on cardboard, firmly framed and intended as a single unit.
The picture and frame belong together.
